Are you looking for a new job? Do you have a passion for plants and the environment? Our Landscape Maintenance Certificate Program at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School is designed just for you. Fully funded by the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund through the Senator Donnelly Workforce Success Grants, this 20-week program provides specialized training during the transition months from November to April. Graduate in time to begin a new career during the Spring hiring season for gardeners, nursey workers, hardscape installers, turf management, landscape maintenance, irrigation specialist, arborist, or landscape designer.  Begin your journey and shift your career into the growing field of landscape maintenance with skills and knowledge endorsed by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP).

Our Landscape Maintenance Certificate Program follows the NALP’s Certificate for Landscape Management in Fundamentals and Maintenance, offering a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the needs of aspiring landscape professionals.

Curriculum Highlights

  1. Certificate Aligned Training: The curriculum covers essential topics such as:
    • First Aid & Safety
    • Landscape Plan Reading & Calculations
    • Introduction to Irrigation System Components & Maintenance
    • Landscape and Turf Equipment Safety & Maintenance
    • Planting, Turf Installation, and Maintenance
    • Pest, Tree & Shrub Management
  2. Localized Learning and Expert Insights: Enhance your learning with local garden history, plant care and identification, garden design, and landscape construction. Benefit from guest speakers who are experts in Cape Cod ecosystems and soil.
  3. Hands-On Experience: Utilize the CCRTHS Horticulture Capital Skills grant equipment for practical demonstrations in small engine, tools, and machine care. Engage in a comprehensive garden design project.
  4. Digital and Safety Training: Gain online safety and equipment training certifications through Greenius and create a personal database of Cape Cod plants.
  5. Professional Preparation: The curriculum includes content from the Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional study guide, aiding in plant care and identification, with additional tree and shrub pruning knowledge.

Who Should Apply?

This program is targeted at individuals who are currently working in another industry but are eager to move into the professional landscape industry. Ideal candidates are those looking to change their career path, elevate their prospects within the landscaping industry, and seek comprehensive training, industry-recognized certification, and the opportunity to engage in high-wage skilled work.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must reside in Barnstable County and meet one of the following conditions:

  • Currently unemployed
  • Employed in a non-benefited, seasonal position
  • Employed year-round but with an income less than 60% of the median income for Barnstable County
  • Number of Dependents   |   60% Median Income- Cape and Islands

Application Information

Application Period: September 23, 2024 – October 23, 2024
Submission: Applications must be submitted in hard copy and can be mailed to or dropped off at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, 351 Pleasant Lake Ave, Harwich, MA 02645, Attn: Adult Education and received by 5:00 p.m. October 23rd
