Electrical Journeyman Code and Theory Level 1
Begin your classroom training for the electrical trade with Electrical Journeyman Code and Theory Level 1 at The Community School at Cape Cod Tech in Harwich, Massachusetts. This 150 hour course is designed for electrical apprentices who are working toward the 600 total classroom hours required to sit for the Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician licensing exam.
This Level 1 course follows the Mike Holt Electrical Apprenticeship curriculum and introduces students to the foundational knowledge needed for continued study in the electrical field. Students begin with OSHA construction safety, electrical hazards, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment before moving into electrical theory, basic electrical systems, digital multimeter principles, electrical calculations, circuit concepts, and introductory National Electrical Code topics.
Course topics are based on the Mike Holt Level 1 curriculum and include electrical theory, digital multimeter use, Ohm’s Law, Watt’s Law, series and parallel circuits, AC fundamentals, overcurrent protection, voltage drop, multiwire circuits, and introductory NEC requirements. Students will also begin using the Massachusetts Electrical Code, NFPA 70 with Massachusetts Amendments, as part of their preparation for continued licensing coursework.
Who Should Enroll:
This course is intended for electrical apprentices who are beginning their classroom training toward Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician licensure. Students must be employed by a licensed electrician in order to enroll.
Requirements:
Students must obtain the Massachusetts Electrical Code, NFPA 70 with Massachusetts Amendments, and the Mike Holt Level 1 curriculum materials required for the course.
English Language Readiness is required to participate safely and successfully in instruction, safety procedures, technical/cod materials, coursework, and assessments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
