Veterinary Assistant Approved Program

This course prepares you to take the NAVTA exam to be a Veterinary Assistant providing you the credentials, knowledge and experiences to be successful in your chosen career. Students are also responsible to complete intern hours at a veterinary hospital. This is the only NAVTA-approved program on Cape Cod and has been expanded to include exotic and large animals. Veterinary Assistants are an integral part of the veterinary healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or credentialed veterinary technician. Through classroom and clinical instruction, you will be trained to provide assistance in the following: > Office procedures and client relations > Medical terminology and positioning > Pharmacology > Preventative healthcare > Basic triage, emergency and critical care nursing > Behavior and restraint > Animal husbandry > Laboratory procedures > Surgical and recovery room assistance > Radiology > Exotics husbandry and common diseases > Large Animal and common diseases All students must provide proof of current tetanus vaccination and must be able to lift 50 lbs. The Veterinary Assistant Program is approved by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), which offers the nationally recognized credential, Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA). Upon completion of the program, successful graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Approved Veterinary Assistant Exam (exam fee is $100). Includes clinical hours at a Veterinary provider. Stethoscope and textbooks are included. Scrubs and national exam fee are not included.
