Veterinary Assistants are in high demand with the increase in pet ownership and Cape Cod and nearby hospitals are contacting us for recent graduates to hire. This course prepares you to take the NAVTA exam to be a Veterinary Assistant providing you the credentials, knowledge and experiences to be successful in your chosen career.
Veterinary Assistants are an integral part of the veterinary healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or credentialed veterinary technician. Through classroom and clinical instruction, you will be trained to provide assistance in the following:
All students who sign up for this class will need to pass a CORI, provide proof of a current tetanus vaccination, and must be able to lift 50 lbs.
This course is 250 hours (150 classroom, 100 clinical).
The Veterinary Assistant Program is approved by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), which offers the nationally recognized credential, Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA). Upon completion of the program, successful graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Approved Veterinary Assistant Exam (exam fee is $100). This is the only NAVTA-approved program on Cape Cod and has been expanded to 250 hours with the addition of exotic and large animals.
